“I just know we aren’t getting any younger,” Sally says. A simple fact laid out in the open, they were, what? In their late 40s to early 50s? His back starts to ache, although it always was due to his height, no surprise, and she has three children sleeping at home. It wasn’t like it was an unknown fact that they were getting old. Greg just doesn’t know why there was a need to point that out.
Greg feels her foot bump his leg from under the table, but neither of them moves from the contact.

Needless to say, Greg didn’t look convinced. “Were you?” he asked flatly, clearly already well aware of the answer.
“No, Captain.” Alex said, and if his ears hadn’t already been blistered red by the wind, they’d be flushing. “I was playing a game with Mr Key and Mr Watson.”
Greg barked a laugh and shook his head. “Christ,” he sighed. “I should have you flogged for that.”
